Thanks to a study on how to enhance the cultivation of Iris pallida, Annalisa Meucci, a third-year student of the PhD course in Agrobiosciences, received an award for the best oral presentation given by young researchers at the IV National Conference on Micropropagation: a meeting between the sector and research operators, organised as part of the activities of the 'Micropropagation and in vitro technologies' working group of the Italian Society of Horticulture at the Department of Agro-Environmental and Territorial Sciences of the University of Bari.

The iris and its essences for perfumes

The award-winning study, of which Annalisa Meucci is the author together with Rita Maggini, Giorgiana Chietera and Anna Mensuali, illustrates the results of some of the activities carried out at the Crop Science Research Center. The aim of the study is to enhance the cultivation of Iris pallida for the production of essences of great interest to the perfume industry.
Dr Meucci's doctoral project, under the supervision of Prof. Anna Mensuali, is part of an ongoing scientific collaboration between the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, the University of Pisa, the CNR and the French industry LMR on the study of plant-environment interactions in the Iris pallida species.
